Limited Warranty and Limitations and Exclusions
LIMITED WARRANTY
“We”, “our”, and “us” refer to SUN-DOR-CO (a Kansas corporation), 901 South Spencer, Newton Kansas 67114. “You” refers to the original purchaser of our doors, in the ordinary course of business, within one year from the date the doors are shipped from our factory.
We grant you the following limited warranty: Our doors will be of good material and workmanship and will be free of defects which would make them unserviceable or unfit for ordinary and recommended use.
This limited warranty is valid for one year from the date each door is shipped from our factory, and it is subject to the following terms and conditions. You must inspect each door when you receive it and before it is hung or fitted. If you find a defect in any door, you must notify us in writing within 30 days of the date you received the door describing the defect to us.
If any door is found by us to contain defects as stated herein during the warranty period, we at our option will do one of the following:
- Repair the defect;
- Furnish you a replacement door, provided that the original door is returned to our factory; or
- Refund you the amount we were paid for the original door after we receive the original door at our factory. If we elect option 2 or 3, the door may be shipped to us at our expense. We will furnish you shipping instructions.
Under no circumstances will we pay for any costs of installing, finishing, or removing any door, nor are we responsible for any consequential damages.
LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS
- Unsatisfactory service or appearance caused by failure to follow the “CARE, HANDLING, JOB FINISHING, AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS” set forth herein are excluded from this warranty.
- The appearance of finished doors is excluded from this warranty.
- Natural variations in the color or texture of wood are not to be considered defects.
- Warp shall not be considered a defect unless it exceeds ¼ inch in 84” in the plane of the door itself. Warp is any distortion in the door itself and does not refer to the relationship of the door to the frame or jamb in which it is hung. The term “warp” shall include bow, cup and twist. Measuring the amount of warp in a door, the following method shall be used: bow, cup and twist shall be measured by placing a straight edge on the concave face of the door at any angle (i.e. horizontally, vertically, diagonally), with the door in its installed position. The measurement of bow, cup and twist shall be made at the point of maximum distance between the bottom of the straight-edge and the face of the door.
- Doors with panel shrinkage of 1/8” or less are not to be considered defective.
- Dimensional changes that are a result of changing environmental conditions.
- Failure to properly maintain the door including finish.
- All of the following doors are excluded from this warranty.
- 1-1/8” thick doors which are wider than 3’0” or higher than 7’0”.
- 1-3/8” thick doors which are wider than 3’0” or higher than 7’0”.
- 1-3/4” thick doors which are wider than 3’6” or higher than 8’0”.
- 2-1.4” thick doors which are wider than 3’6” or higher than 10’0”.
- Swinging or track mounted doors wider than 20” with stiles narrower than 4-1/2”
- Swinging or track mounted doors with bottom rails narrower than 7-1/2”
- Swinging or track mounted doors with top rails narrower than 4-1/2”
- Doors that have internal dowels of tenons cut during the installation of hardware
- Doors that have mortise pockets in the stiles that have less than 1”solid wood face measurement remaining after fitting
- Doors that are improperly hung or do not swing freely.
- Plank or plank panel doors that have planks wider than 6”
- Western Pine and Genuine Mahogany doors with edge glued panels over 25” in width.
- All doors except Western Pine and Genuine Mahogany doors, with edge glued panels over 13-3/4” in width.
- Hardwood doors, except Genuine Mahogany doors, used in exterior applications.
- Louver doors used in exterior applications.
- Dark stains or dark colored paints on door surfaces exposed directly to sunlight.
- Exterior doors installed in locations that allow them to receive, either direct or indirect moisture wetting.
- Doors with mitered rim panels used in exterior applications.
- Doors with dissimilar face appearances or different species of wood
- Doors shipped outside the contiguous 48 United States and District of Columbia.
- Any implied warranty shall be limited in duration to the period of this warranty and to the remedies specified herein.
- We shall not be liable for any doors repaired, returned or replaced without prior written consent.
BULLET RESISTANT DOORS
Bullet resistant wood doors and frames manufactured by SUN-DOR-CO, Inc. are assembled with a bullet resistant fiberglass composite core material listed by Underwriters Laboratory and warranted by its manufacturer. SUN-DOR-CO does not represent their doors to meet any standard of bullet or impact resistance nor do we warrant the surface to be free of spalling in the event of an impact. If the bullet resistant core is penetrated when installing hardware, the area of penetration will be compromised. Doors and frames with wood edges have limited protection around this perimeter.
CARE, HANDLING, JOB FINISHING AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
General: It is the nature of wood to expand and contract with changes in moisture content. Generally, steps that minimize changes in moisture content will minimize door problems.
- Upon receipt of shipment of doors, inspect each door for visible defects. Doors should not be left in shipping container, but should be stored flat on a level surface in a dry, well ventilated building. Use an opaque cover to keep clean, but allow air circulation. Do not store in direct sunlight. If stored for long periods, doors must be sealed with a non-water based sealer or primer.
- Handle with clean gloves and do not drag doors across one another or across other surfaces.
- Doors should not be exposed to excessive heat, excessive dryness, excessive humidity, or sudden changes therein. Relative humidity should be kept between 30% and 60%. They should be conditioned to average prevailing relative humidity of the locality before hanging.
- The utility or structural strength of the door must not be impaired in the fitting of the door, the application of the hardware, or cutting and altering the door for lights, louvers, panels or any other special details. Doors to receive mortise locks must have 1” solid wood remaining.
- Before finishing, remove handing marks or effects of exposure to moisture with a thorough, final sanding over all surfaces of the door using 120 and 150 grit sandpaper and clean before applying sealer and finish. Some species of wood (oak particularly) may react unfavorably with certain finishes. Where possible, the surface should be tested for such unfavorable reactions. Do not use steel wool on oak doors.
- Immediately after cutting and fitting, but before hanging, the entire door, INCLUDING TOP AND BOTTOM EDGES and areas routed for concealed closures and other hardware, must receive a minimum application of sealer or primer and two coats of a good grade of paint, varnish or lacquer. The total finishing system should have good moisture excluding properties. Avoid dark stains or dark colored paints on door surfaces exposed directly to sunlight. First coat of a thinned clear sanding sealer, followed by light block sanding, will minimize subsequent handling marks and promote uniformity of stain coats. Exterior finishes must be used on exterior doors.
- Water based paints are generally ineffective at excluding moisture. Water based sealer or prime coats should not be used. Water based top coats should only be used after an adequate moisture seal is established.
- Normally, when hanging exterior glazed doors, the removable stop should be on the outside. Keep paint, stain, varnish, tape or other substances off the etched portion of etched glass.
- Most finishes on exterior doors deteriorate relatively quickly. In order for exterior doors to continue receiving the protection required, inspect the condition of exterior finishes at least once a year and refinish as often as needed to maintain the protective integrity of the finish.
- All fire doors must be installed according to NFPA standard #80.
There are no warranties that extend beyond the foregoing, and our responsibility under this warranty is as stated herein. We shall not be liable for consequential, indirect, or incidental damages, or of any amount in excess of the price we received for the doors involved.
